I’ve been Djing for almost 20 years, and yes, that makes me a cranky old son of a bitch. This Friday, Im crawling out of my la-z-boy chair, cane in hand, and Im going to mop the floor with these youngsters. Im bringing Glamorama back because I need to show these kids how it’s done. Just in case I need backup, Bleach is coming out to host the night with me. I absolutely can’t wait!
For 10 years, I threw a party at Beauty Bar in Dallas called Glamorama. For me, it was my weekly therapy. I was able to play the music I loved, for a dance floor that was packed without fail every week. Then Covid happened, and that all went away. Dallas has lost so many important dance floors in the last few years to a mixture of greedy developers, failed business, and a changing landscape. Ive been making due with the best I can find, and frequently that has meant settling for less than perfect. It is not easy to create a great dance space, and yet Dallas seems to fail at it time and time again. Recently a local blog had a whole article about the lack of dancing in this city called(Dallas Dont Dance). My response to that, if you build it, they will come. Ladylove and It’ll do are gems in an otherwise desert landscape. I love both of these clubs, and while they aren’t Beauty Bar, they’re pretty awesome in their own right. I hope they both last a long time.
It’s been 5 years since the last Glamorama and in the mean time Ive been testing out different residencies, throwing one off parties, and running away to the Ren Faire. I miss Beauty Bar though. People ask me about it every few days, so it’s hard to forget. I’ve also been amassing a folder of musical misfits that don’t make sense at the other places I was playing, but make perfect sense at a Glamorama Night. It’s about 1000 tracks long at this point. I compiled just a few of them in to a spotify playlist for you to check out.
In all seriousness, I don’t get to play the music I love as often as I used to, and Im gratful for every opportunity to do so. If you never experienced Glamorama, or if you loved it almost as much as I did, see you on the Dancefloor Friday Night at Ladylove. Party is 9-1.
